    Description

1999-2 Biodiversity; Millennium in Maps - Geographic Map Poster
The fragile balance of plants and animals that share the Earth took millions of years to develop. Some life forms have persisted in nearly their original state, surviving episodes of mass extinction. Some, like ourselves, are relative newcomers. However, because of interconnections in species, if the reduction in this biodiversity continues at it's current rate, the results will be profound. The map-side of this important study contains a world map of the continents with insets of a few of the threatened life forms – threats coming from a loss of habitat, introduction of invasive species, overharvesting, pollution, among other factors – mostly man-made threats. The reverse-side discusses the threats to biodiversity with insets of land use in each of the continents and engages in a conversation about the medicinal plants and animals that could be lost if we don't engage in conservation.
