    Description

2007-10 CHANGING CLIMATE, Greenhouse Earth – National Geographic Map Poster
A most important study.  The scientific evidence is clear; surface temperatures on Earth are warming at a rapid rate. Previous changes in climate, like the Ice Age were instigated by natural causes, like a variation in Earth's orbit. This is different! The map-side of this study contains two world maps. One is color-coded to indicate the surface temperature change from 1976 to 2006. The other is color-coded to indicate the increased drought that is being caused, or increased moisture in other areas, producing floods, expressed as a percentage of average annual precipitation from 1976 to 2006. At the bottom of this side is a chart indicating how the world will feel the heat, in terms of water, food, health, coasts, and ecosystems. The reverse-side contains a discussion and chart describing “Greenhouse Earth”; how the Earth's atmosphere works like a greenhouse, with carbon dioxide retaining enough of the sun's heat to allow plants and animals to thrive. However, the burning of fossil fuels has created excess carbon dioxide, upsetting the balance, and creating a warmer Earth. At the bottom of this side is a chart showing how the variations in earth's orbit, wobble, and tilt also affect temperatures.
    Map is approximately 20" x 31".
